Norwegian Folk Museum

Imagine a museum where you can walk from one part of Norway to another and tour almost the entire country in one day. See one of the country's most spectacular buildings, Gol Stave church from 1200 or a gas station from 1928 in one of Europe's largest open air museums[1, 2, 3].

Indoor collections include colourful Norwegian folk dresses, beautiful folk art objects, and a Sami (Lapp) exhibition.

Norway's first Parliamentary Chamber from 1814 is also on display. Families with children will enjoy the special exhibitions on childhood and antique toys. The exhibitions also include a pharmacy, bank, post office and dentist's office.

The Norwegian Folk Museum is much more than an ordinary museum. Here you can experience life in "The Old Town" and in typical Norwegian farmsteads. Dressed in folk dresses, our hosts and hostesses will ensure that you have a pleasant visit. Lectures, folk dancing, special themes and tours, and activities for children are offered year round. Various special offers for groups. Cafés at the site. Open year round. Bus no. 30 to Bygdøy. During the summer season also ferry from the City Hall pier.
